Owner of 3G Hp Pavillion products. Latest is Slimline. Wanted to have offline backups so I purchased this product (11/30/2009). A few weeks ago. I began hearing whirring and buzzing- Not sure if it is the fan or not since it isn’t hot to the touch. It works and I do see it as a listed device;however, everyone knows any hard drive making noise is a red flare!
Once troubleshooting was completed (intermediate user here), I was unable to use their online tech support. However, when I sent tech an email, I received acknowledgement and a response immediately! Response stated ‘…most possible cause for this issue might be due to the PMD fan or due to some hardware components within the PMD. Such issue of making noise from the PMD is a known issue and the only step to fix this issue is to replace the PMD. We will assist you to replace the PMD.’. Within 25 minutes I not only had a response but also confirmation this was still under warranty and a service order for replacement entered.
Admittedly, it is not ideal to have this issue. But it is exceptional to have this level of customer support. Apparently they heard about these experiences and have made some incredible improvements in response and assistance. Will update all on my experience with replacement. Until then, at least a three star.
