I would rate this card higher, but it’s not the latest and greatest card.
The reason I bought this card, and the reason I like it so much, is that it’s pretty much a workhorse card, and has no problems. I’ve used this exact card in other machines, and it does the job, when it comes to gaming, etc.
Installing a dedicated sound card is always a good idea; I’ve found that just adding a dedicated sound card improves overall system performance, and this one definitely handles the business!

The only problem I had with onboard sound was that using the recording program ‘Audacity’ I was given no input options, the recordings were poor, and input vol. was difficult to control. This wasn’t the case with my previous system which I attributed to the SB Live Value card in that rig. Game sound with onboard was quite good and I could have my old 2.1 desktop speakers/subwoofer connected, as well as my headphones for those nighttime ‘do not disturb’ sessions. With the SB Audigy (as with the SB Live Value), the connection options are limited (I had to use a splitter), but the sound quality of music and games (and Audacity options) were superior. So yes it was worth it, but come on guys, how about some ports for headphones?

The Asus on-board audio did not work on my wife’s computer after I installed Windows 7 32 bit. Updated drivers did no good. Installed this card, Windows 7 found it and the proper drivers. Within a few minutes the computer rebooted with the Windows wave. Buy it!

I can’t express how pleased I am. For the price, it really is amazing.
The sound quality is great, it even makes my standard PC speakers sound far better. Your crappy speakers will make sounds you didn’t think they could make. Music will sound smoother and you get so much more.
I use nice headphones most of the time and you can REALLY see a difference if you have some quality speakers or headphones. The bass is something else, when I installed the card I immediately noticed how the bass sounded, or rather, felt. Your music will have strong smooth bass that it never had before which really brings it to a new level. The highs are clearer than ever, you notice things like the crash and cymbals ringing as clear as everything else. All the sound ranges are not mixed and muddled anymore.
The sound your standard motherboard gives you is mostly midrange with a bit of highs and a bit of lows. This card will give you everything, the highs, the lows, the mids, and make each one sound far better.
There are better cards out there but for 25-30 dollars, this card far exceeded my expectations.
Easy to install, CHEAP! , and sounds amazing for how much it costs.
I highly recommend this sound card.

I bought this specifically for a Windows 7 system. Win 7 automatically recognizes the card and installs associated drivers. I made the mistake of attempting to install the disk that came with it and it caused a reboot and required a repair to windows startup followed by manual uninstall of the portion of the software which installed; don’t do that. The card works just fine when you let windows detect it and install its own drivers, just don’t bother with the software disk.
